How to select, frame and display your art collection

A Glowing Color Revival, and More

The heirloom oil painting above the fireplace looked too small for the space, and too tightly framed. I designed the new frame and liners to display the landscape to better advantage. For the walls, ceiling and trim,  I selected the warmer colors, helped re-arrange the furniture groupings, and suggested the new fabric for the windowseat. The finished effect is balanced, open and welcoming, just as the homeowner requested.

In the Dining Room, a new vibrant color palette in gold and orange enlivens the artwork and the surroundings. I consulted on the new picture frames and display of the paintings and art prints.

In the home of a lover of fine art

before

Often, moving the artwork you have to another, better place for it is what’s needed. I enjoy finding the piece that works best for every location.

When this client moved into her new home, every wall was painted either red or pink. It was overpowering her artwork - and her mood!
Finding the right places to show her treasured art pieces to best advantage, we simultaneously chose paint colors that nourish her feeling of being joyously at home.

A Global Art Collection

before

The world travelers in this house have a stunning and diverse art collection. Fresh, bold paint colors stimulate our appreciation of the range of styles and the uniqueness of each piece. At the same time, I skillfully modulate the paint colors so as not to dominate or distract from the art. These clients are delighted with the rich new setting that augments their art appreciation; it’s dramatic and at the same time, grounding.

Contemporary Style

before

The colors in this home were selected to enhance the homeowners’ contemporary art collection. Notice how the figures in the painting appear more animated against the right wall color! In the living room, Art First also applied a four-color glaze on the curved wall to harmonize with multi-hued slate floors.
